Can I place leptoseris and/or encrusting montipora on my sandbed?
I would prefer them because they are cheaper than acans and scolies... I also want to test a sand bed coral with my diamond watchman goby... he appears to not sift as much as others and my uncles does not bury his corals so I am gonna try some on the sand..

Yes. My whole bottom of my tank is where I grow my "Fragging colonies" such as montipora, leptos, and anu other sps/lps/softies I wanna grow lol.

Yes you can place them on the sand bed. Try to keep them clear of sand or detritus. If debris ends up resting on the corals it will cause tissue damage.
I will put leptos on the sandbed once I get them first I want to pick up a yellow and kole tang though. My goby rarely moves and holds sand it usually drops it about where it picked it up so I feel comfortable with sandbed corals.

I think they’d be ok on the sand bed but it’s not preferable. Leptos need medium flow as stuff tends to collect on their tissue easily and they don’t tolerate it at all. They’ll lose that tissue pretty quick. I wouldn’t want to risk sand or food getting stuck on there.

Hmmm I do have an open flat rock to try them on... but its right down the middle where my candy canes are...

leptos are hardy in the aspect of parameters, flow, and par. The only thing is just crap getting on their tissue. So if you do go with the sandbed, you might have to turkey baste often. I had a lepto in a low flow spot and algae just took over his tissue. It took a months to heal.

You can see the little dark patch on this fake o lantern one to the right of the wilso/bowerbanki. Also the green one on the left that is super spotty. That one nearly died from something else but algae quickly took over the dead tissue. It took a lot of patience to get him healed to this point.

This picture was a few weeks ago and both are nearly fully healed and growing very fast.

I have a few and they are all the same way.
