So I have looked around and havent been able to find anything on this. It seems a lot of my coral have less PE at night. A few of my acros pe is almost non existant and my blastos and acans seem to get smaller at night. During the day they are out in full force. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks,

Aaron

Looks good but where's the pH and Magnesium? Also at night almost everything will go to sleep

Oooo, PH is 8.11 morning to 8.26 mid day. Mag havent tested in a while so can't give an accurate reading on that one. :(

It looks goo to me but you should get a mag. test kit for your acros, KH loos good, but your acros will do the best around 9-10kh

Yep. Most of my Lps have feeders out at night. I fed them last night and they all ate like pigs.

Thanks for the help guys just wanted to check if it was the norm.

It really depends on the type of coral, most, if not all, LPS will have their feeders out at night. Acros generally have longer PE at night as well, but this really depends on when you are looking. IME, the prime time to look is about an hour after lights out. Even my mille's that have crazy PE during the day get longer at night. If anything is crawling on them at night, like a big hermit, or a snail bumps into them, obviously they will retract a bit, so timing is everything here.

Just curious why you would say Acros will do best at 9-10dkh ? What are you basing that statement on?

I wouldn't look at my #'s here as everything is fine during the day right?

Whats your light? etc n stuff like that? My sps gets crazy polyp extension at night as from what i hear a lot of feeding goes on during the night and photo during the day.?.

Maybe try lowering your flow during night hours to give them a better chance at feeding(but only if your running a ton) I run crazy flow in my tank and have it set to have 1 of the 5 PHeads to shut down during lights out.

You should have massive polyp extension at night. I would check for pests...AEFW?

Great idea. I aptesiaX'd everything two nights ago and shut flow down. All sps pe'd almost immediately. Thought I should feed later and everything opened up and eat.

Btw great quote in sig line

I gotta bump this thread back up. I am still seeing this happen and feel like something is going on. Some of my acros have better PE at night then day but most do not. I have been dropping my flow at night to half power on my mp10. My wp25 also gets turned down as well. The only thing I see crawling around at night are huge pods and some kind of shell less snail that is brown(Stomatella?). Nothing crawling on the acros. Dropped my alk a little.

Alk :7.8
Cal :450
Mag :1440
PH:8.18-8.35
Temp : 77.8-78.6

Lighting starts at 7:00 with blues running, whites/blues/colors start at 11:00 and run until 4:30 then blues only again until 6:30 then moonlights come on until 9:00. Maybe to much time on lights? I am going to cut it down to a 8 hour photoperiod on my next day off.

Let me know if you see anything that stands out to you.

Thanks,

Aaron
