Let’s see those Torches, Hammers and frogspawns

What a beautiful reef, definitely you can note the difference in between good husbandry and just a tank owner.
Congrats 110% on your reef, one of a kind!!!! Nice for the yellow tang in such palace

Boom!

It was 5-10 yrs old at the time I frag’d it. That was about 2 yrs ago. I’ve since sold many of the frags. The remaining frags have had to be cut down again (3rd generation).

I will try to post a pic of one of the frags that I kept in my DT tomorrow when lights come on.

Did any cuts die? Did you do any treatment after fragging it? Have heard that wall hammers are very prone to infection and then dying after being fragged and injured.

No cuts died. Even some of the "splinters" went on to thrive. I did/do dip the cut tissue into a diluted iodine solution for about 30-90 seconds. That solution is essentially 10-20 mL of a DIY Lugol's solution in about a quart, or so of tank water.

I've not heard about the hardiness of wall hammers. I've not heard/seen many folks fragging them (until recently). Given the amount of tissue that is disrupted in the process, I'm not surprised to hear the potential for infection. If the tissue is torn, instead of cut, I think infection risk is even greater. I was surprised that some of the splinters (mostly torn/separated tissue w/ some skeleton attached) survived so well. I mounted them on cement plugs and they slowly grew up.

I got my original frag from Premium Aquatics (Columbus, IN). I'm not sure of its origin (aquaculture, mariculture, ocean). But, the off-spring do appear to be quite hardily adapted to my synthetic lighting and reef conditions.

Hard to tell from phone pic with blue lights, but from left to right, this is a purple-pink, a couple of indo greens, a "black" with gold stripes and blue tips, and a gold with very pale blue tips...

These are all still babies at this point, but my purple torch, 2 different frogspawn varieties (the one in the back has fluorescent tips that look awesome at night) and my splattered hammer that has tripled in size in 2 months.
