Let’s see your secale colonies

I have been noticing a really wide variety of acropora secale coming here from a few places. So let’s see your wild secale colonies please. I got rid of my “tricolor” last year because I got bored with it but I don’t remember seeing secale with some of these colors. There has to be some really hot ones out there.

A. secale is a species that can vary a lot in growth form and coloration. Many times people confuse A. valida for A. secale and vice versa.

I had to dig back for this pic as it was a from the previous tank I had several years ago, it was still fairly new to the tank and I was using 10k metal halides so the purple coloration hadn't really come through yet.

Yea this is the color I am used to seeing especially years ago. Divers den has a bunch of variants from Aussie and Tonga. I am suprised no Aussie reefers have some of these pieces in their tanks, I am curious how they color turns out after in a tank for a while. I really like the light purple with the whitish polyps.
Thanks for the pic and bump, I knew there was a chance it would fall to the bottom with everyone chasing tenuis these days.

Yeah the tenuis and vermiculata game is getting crazy out there, lol.

I was keeping this under 10k aqualine buschke 250wde halides, it grew corals wicked fast but coloration wasn't all that nice.

I get the feeling most of them will end up looking like the same bonsai and tricolor variants that we are used to seeing. Maybe that predominately green one with no hint of purple will be different, but then again, it's just green.

Yea there are a number of them that are going to be the average secale we are used to. Have you been watching it every day or two? There are defiantly some other variants mixed in. But I do agree, some look like something different but I will just be like the old ones that have been here forever.

Nice light branches on your secale. Never seen them so long before mine always grow short and compact.
The few variants I have seen have all had light white colored polyps by the way. The teal one I got a frag of in a buddies tank waiting to grow.

I got one from Tonga that is green with pink tips and neon green polyps that I really like. If it takes off I am hoping the pink shows well.
There is a green/yellow one that I am tempted to try and see what it turns out like but that one is risky for being just green.
There are also a number of pink and purple variants with “white” polyps too that could be nice. Defiantly not all going to be like bonsai or tricolor patterns and am suprised no ones tried any of these on here.
Where are all the Aussie guys? Biggles?

Now there is a nice purple with pink polyps secale on dd. Defiantly not all the same as the old purple with green polyp secales. No one else is intrigued by these?

I always thought those pieces, even c eymann’s pic where cerialis. I do like those pieces but the ones on divers den are a bit different. Maybe I should be posting the pics somehow of the ones I am referring to.
The secales I thought have more rounded and more randomly spaced coralites but I could be wrong.

Here is one of the cool secale colonies I have been seeing pop up, this one i haven’t seen yet though. The growth Form on the Aussie pieces really are very different from coral to coral like c eymann was talking about. Some of the pink with purple tip ones almost made me pull the trigger.

Are you talking about one like this? DD calls it a secale but who knows?..........as mentioned, secales, valida and vermiculata are hard to differentiate.

I'm guessing a piece like this would be all purple but I'm not sure on the white branches unless you run very low nutrients. It also seems like the purple will only be on the upper 2" or so which is fine looking as a colony that is fully grown into a bush shape.
