Hey all,
2 month old tank. Cycled. Some sogties and Lps, clowns, some CUC. Ugly phase starting. Should i just let this ride? No additives. Nitrates 5 consistently. Not checking anything else except salinity and temp.

snails eat some but can’t keep up. Any advice?

I’d let it go through its phase. Going through similar now but mine is almost six months out and was hoping to establish coralline before adding corals plus my lighting isn’t optimal. Perhaps more snails. If you had no corals then I’d suggest just blacking it out which I did for a while. Mine has receded and now find myself having to feed the CUC

leave it

normal ugly phase. get some cerith snails, nerites and a turbo or two and they will graze most of it down.

if you don't have a good LFS nearby then reefcleaners has some good cleaner packages based on tank size

That's nothing. It's going to get worse. Remove excess by hand, increase CuC if necessary and manage parameters. That's all that is needed.

Edit: not currently of course, saying down the road.

Thanks. Nitrates so far steady 3-5. Mostly softies so would like to keep it around there.
I’m not too worried just didn’t want to fall behind. I do like the idea of an urchin down the road

+1 on waiting

I got to the point that I was ready to take drastic steps. But by the time I bought chemiclean, did my research and some more spot cleaning, it was over.

If you end up still needing some help, Astrea snails are the main algae cleaners in my tanks.

That's the good algae that stuff is so easy to deal with. If it stays like that for an extended period of time (doubt it will) more snails or an urchin will solve it.
