Got a wrasse but have no idea what species it is? Post it here with a good, Email me: [email protected] with a clear picture and I'll ID it for you. If you can capture a photo with the fins flared out, all the better.

And go!

Hello. I think it is a Halichoeres annularis (Dusky Wrasse) but wouldn't mind another confirmation. It's a little over one inch currently. Thanks!!

Kano,

Juvenille halichoeres are always challanging, as they change A LOT as they mature.

That being said I do believe that's a Dusky Wrasse (juvi). However, you are incorrect on the Latin name (I'm guessing lead astray by Live Aquaria; they have had the wrong latin on this species for a while - I should notify them of this). Halichoeres marginatus is the correct latin name.http://www.fishbase.org/summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=5631

:( I thought you were going to bring a fun challange to start this off!
no, just recognizing your willingness to help. I know you know your wrasses.. esp F&F wrasses. :)

I don't have any wrasses atm but I'm sure it won't be long til I have a "few" again. ;)

Oh cool. It's nice to know male. Lubbocks fairy wrasse is all I had. :)

Wow I didn't realize the dusky wrasse looked like that as a juvi. I had one for about a year but didn't get a chance to see that. Very cool. I love wrasses as well so I'll be following.

I did notice that different places had it listed under a different name. Checked some books that had the name you listed. Thanks for the confirmation. :)

I know we already discussed this, but for archival purposes:

Thalassoma rueppellii

And I do not know of a way to determine sex with that species, nor can I seen to find any info on such. Sorry. :(

Tell me three wrasses I can put in my reef tank that will get along. I'm pretty sure I want a Scott's Fairy. What else could I get?

I'd like to keep this thread focused on photos and ID's, but if you start a new thread I'll gladly answer that. And you'll be more likely to get the opinions of others as well.

Okie Dokie....I understand...I did kinda hijack. Sorry about that.
