Let me know about Oregon blue tort

Most of them that I’ve seen stay blue if kept in proper conditions. One of my favorite corals!

My all-time fav. It actually originated from Waves Marine in Portland, OR. Which was only about 3 miles from Upscales. Waves operated out of a glorified storage building. I still vividly remember the first time I walked in and saw the mother colony. 1/4" for $100 back about 2001/2.

Every Oregon Tort I’ve ever seen is a solid, almost glowing “smurf” blue.

That’s the best way to put it. Smurf blue.

Green in the skin makes me think you’re getting a Cali tort, totally different coloration.

It's the classiest blue coral out there. In real life if conditions are well it'll be nicer than the pics. The only disappointment is slow growth which I believe made blue oregano tort maintain a higher price throughout the years. Try to get a true oregon one

They grow slown until they get a certain thickness and then explode in branches and growth from what I seen, after my AEFW attack(Beat then with purge) this frag took about 4 months to finally start to grow it was much more skinnier

My Oregon tort frag was blue...really blue. Colony isn’t as blue. When I cut a tip...the tip is really blue.

It can be very hard to distinguish between Cali and Oregon. For a long time I thought mine was an Oregon and I fragged it to many people not knowing the difference. After all it was a solid "blue" without any green. Until one day back in 2012 a dear friend gave me a true Oregon. The difference is night and day when they are side by side. Also for me the growth rate is MUCH slower on the Oregon vs the Cali.
See if you can tell the difference. The Oregon is on the lower right, and the back is all Cali. Other than the Hawkins Enchinata.

Now I've also learned that if you aren't getting the deep blue color from your Oregon then it could be linked to a lack of NO3 in the tank. A couple of years ago I upgraded my system and for a time I wasn't getting the colors that I once had. My clam was sucking the life out of my new system, by removing all detectable levels of NO3. So I started dosing PNO3, and within days the colors were back. But like everything in this hobby causality is always at play but that will lead to a whole other story.

Mines blue... I have found nutrient imbalance or not enough light can can give it the slightest of green that dissipates once the issue is fixed. Like anything, water quality, flow, and lighting matter.

I have one. It has a rich deep blue color. It is up to a mini colony size. It isn’t the easiest but it isn’t difficult to grow. I would say from my experience and under my lights... strong blue channels but with a fair amount of white, the photos advertised are fairly decent representations.

My Oregon Tort is almost 12 years now and yes it is solid blue . But under some conditions it will turn a teal green color .
