I am slowly adding fish to my tank, a 69 gallon Red Sea. I have had Pistol Shrimp with Goby in the past but it was 10+ years ago. Back then I had pink Fiji sand which was very fine. I seem to remember my Pistol Shrimp making havoc in the tank by constantly digging new burrows all over the tank and on occasion bury a coral. They are really cool to watch though so we have thought about that being one of our additions this time, but I am also reserved about it. Are all pistol shrimp species equal in the amount they burrow? Have you ever wished you had not introduced one into a tank?

I have a YWG and tiger pistol shrimp pair. They’re awesome, peaceful , and entertaining. They stay in one corner under a giant rock and do nonstop construction only in that area. I’ve had no issues with them wreaking havoc. They keep the sand nice and clean in their area as well which makes me happy lol.

Does he ever dig enough to make your water cloudy?

I have a candy cane pistol and orange stripe Gobie and they stay on one end of the tank. Constantly digging but only on that end. No problems, sand storms, or cloudy water.

What do you guys recommend on the combo? Should I mail order or try local? Around here the only things I have seen are a yellow watchman and tiger pistol.
