Whats up guys I'm new to the saltwater world been running my 40 gallon breeder since July but live stock been since november, Im using a 29 gallon sump with a media reactor running gfo and carbon and also a refugium with cheato as well. Currently using one AI HD Prime Light. Stock is currently 2 clown fish and 1 snail, my other snail died, cause of death unknown, levels are normal as in 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites and 0.5 Nitrates Ph 8.3. Also use rodi to make my water and using IO Reef crystals. Ok so here is where i need the communities input. I want to purchase my first soft coral and need a recommendation from you guys. I do not have a reef test kit and not planning to dose any time soon due to funds. Please help me in anyway you can if possible.

GFO, carbon and chaeto to solve specific problems?
I'm inclined to say it's too early considering you've only been stocked for a month or so. Might consider adding fish instead.
Having said that, frogspawn and hammer corals can be nice starters.

I think you may need a few fish first Lol! But ammonia and nitrite shouldn't need to be tested anymore. If your willing to start with softys, try your hand at any of them. There more or less have the same care requirements

Corallimorphs like Rhodactis, Sinularia (Cabbage Coral), Sarcophyton (Toadstool), Capnella, Sympodium.

"brown algae" sounds like the usual new tank uglies. Horribly unscientific term but it is common. Take it as a sign that your system is still 'new'. My restarted 120g, even with very well cured rock and some rock that had years of use still went through the same phase.
