I call this a "migration gap". It happened naturally in my tank. The soli killed the cap and then some green pigment zoo migrated into the dead area of the cap. I didn't realize it till months later when I pulled the cap into more light. These were just scraps laying on the floor of my tank.

I then began to cut sections off trying to let the green expand out and made this frag.

Here's a shot of the mother colony. You can see where I cut and it's expanded out. It also has some other swirls you can't see. The piece in the corner has some neat swirls but it's pasted to the tank floor so it's not going anywhere to get it more light. Everything is getting poor light right now as it's also under my frag rack.
You can see closely where the soli is killing the cap again. I'm wating to see if it turns green on that edge.
