Let's see those Po4 numbers.

Nutrients really just stabilized a month or so ago fairly new grow out system it I have noticed a higher po4 if I test in the morning then if I test at night morning is almost double the value of evening test

ARe you worried about bottoming it out?..

I'm checking every few days right now. Actually my nitrates are steady 0.2 so trying to up those w more feeding and using gfo to keep PO4 down. Been a balancing act for sure.
I see here all the time when the nutrients bottom the dino’s have a party

I just realized this data would have been more visually interesting (and useful?) as a poll with several bands.

  • Don't test. Never have, I'll tell you what.
  • 0.01-0.05
  • 0.05-0.10
  • 0.15-0.20
  • 0.20-0.25
  • etc

Via a Hanna checker 0.09
was creeping up to 0.21 but did some GFO.

NO3 was undetectable via Hanna checker, but now started to dose NaNO3 and it’s up to 8.0 after 5 days of intermittent dosing. gonna see what shakes out like do be about 10, just so i have a buffer.

I used to always keep my nitrates around 5 or lower, and my phosphate below .05. A few months back I got lazy on testing and probably went a month or more without testing nitrate and phosphate. When I finally did test them I was shocked to find my nitrates at about 25 and my phosphates at .18, since I used to have to dose to keep them detectable.
I started reading up on carbon dosing, but then I realized my corals have never looked better, and I’ve not been having any major algae issues. So for now I’m happy with where my levels are. If they become an issue I will work on lowering them.

How old is the system? Does it have sand? Is it live rock or dry? I'm wondering how long the system to to reach saturation.

Yes it has a fairly deep sand bed, it was started with dry rock, and it’s about 3.5 years old.

Around the time that it went up I started dosing aminos (which I’ve been told will raise nitrates) and phyto. I’ve read that phyto will raise nutrients, but I’ve also read that it will lower them so I have no idea which one is right.

I don’t know if that is playing a part in the higher nutrients or not. I would stop dosing them to see if they nutrient levels fall, but again the tank seems happy where it’s at so I’m going to leave it be for now.

0.08 this morning, 0.03 yesterday, 0.05 the day before. All on the Hanna checker, so who knows what it's really at.

.11 After having it bottom out and dosing. Reef Flux taking care of bryopsis/gha so my numbers are returning to what is prob. more normal. Using phosguard to take it down a bit
