It's actually a Maxima, Derasa's have smooth shells with no scutes are aren't usually found in this color/pattern.

Clams don't need fed, just need lots of light and ammonia to keep them going.

When they are young I would have to disagree with the comment that they do not need to be fed. Check out wet web media dot com, they have great info to help you keep your clam alive and healthy. That is a beautiful clam and deserves proper care/research.

Wrong. If you read farther down in this Advanced Aquarist article you will find that provided with enough light, maximas of any size does NOT need to be fed.

I've had lots of clams over the years so I think I have seen first hand what works and what doesn't. Some of those study's were paid for by the very company's that sell phyto, etc that is said to be needed to be fed to clams...
