Big E.. I am very intrigued with your set up. Do you mind me asking what your photo period is for your 4 bulb T5s? And also maybe just a little about your aquarium practices in general. Thank you, beautiful sps you have.

I run 8.5 hours full on/full off.

I'm running an old school Berlin style setup---

- Large oversized skimmer- 3-4 times what is rated. For example I ran a Deltec 703 rated for 500g on a 160g total volume system.
- Barebottom
- 10% weekly water change
- No coral food or coral additives
- Occasionally carbon passive in a mesh bag
- No filter floss or bags

I'm currently dosing a small amount of vinegar....8mls a day because the current skimmer I have is a bit undersized, so it needs some help. I'm in the porcess of upgrading the skimmer and I'll ween the tank off the vinegar.

Sometimes simplicity is best. Thank you for sharing. Your sps colors are amazing, the reds especially I have never seen such a vibrant shade of red

This is my 75g mixed reef, I had to take this tank down in June of 2012 due to the fact that it was in
the basement I had to have major surgery and would not be go down stairs for 6 months to maintain it.

But it had a DIY 8 bulb T5 fixture in the hood. I didn't have a whole lot of SPS but what I did have thrived
What I also had was 2 clams, one on the bottom and one about inches off the bottom, unfortunately these
are from before I got the second one.

I really cannot remember the combination of bulbs I was using but the look leaned towards 16k, not as
blue as some but it brought out what I thought was some really nice colors.

wow these tanks are beautiful. i think i now like the more crisp white look with enough blue to make the corals pop! I just started configuring my 36" 4 bulb, but need to get a couple more ati's to go with the two blue+ i just got.

Not the best pics...but here's mine...I wouldn't consider it an SPS tank though... maybe I'm on the wrong thread? (6) 80w T5s. (4) ATI Blue Plus (1) ATI Coral Plus (1) ATI Purple Plus.

Are your bulbs being overdriven? I assume since you are using an ATI fixture you are using ATI bulbs. Are your corals brown or pale? What salt are you using? How is your Potassium level? Mg level? How many fish to do you have? How often do you feed? Aminos may help if you have a lack of nutrients. Just cut back on the dosing by half until cyan goes away.

Bulbs are not overdriven.....
All ATI bulbs (5 blue+, 3 coral+, 1 aquablue special, 1 purple+)
Was using Red Sea Coral Pro salt, but just switched to Reef Crystals
Corals are pale, none are brown
Mag is constant 1300....Potassium was just raised to about 350-400
Livestock are approx 15 fish, fed 1-2 times per day

I shouldn't have a lack of nutrients. I thought that was what my issue was, so I started dosing aminos. That caused my PO4 to jump up to 0.20ppm and now I'm fighting cyano. I got it back down to 0.00 using GFO. No one I've talked to has been able to figure out a solution for my problem, so I was hoping someone here may know something that can help.


By the way, thanks for the info regarding coral coloration. I've read that piece a long time ago, and have dosed trace elements trying to see if it would help. Some have responded, but most have not.

. I was wanting your guys opinion as I see you have t5s and I saw this post.. I've had a reef tank for over 5 years and for the first 3 I used t5s and everything thrived. I switched to AIS Sol blues 2 years ago and just seems everything went downhill and doesn't grow good. I have 4 AIS on a 60 inch tank. Are leds just that bad? Should I switch back to t5s? This is my first post and I just joined. Thanks

I am setting up my 90. 24"x24"x36" long. I have a older current outer orbit fixture that works good. It has 4 HO T5s, 2 MH, and lunar LEDs. It's a rimless tank but came with a canopy my husband wants to use. I have an older 1/10 chiller hooked up. I would be afraid to put this in a canopy. If I use it which bulbs would you all recommend? The MH are in the center with 2 T5s on either side. Or I was thinking of selling it and adding T5 fixtures to the canopy with LED supplements. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I don't have any recent FTS but here are colony shots to show some color. The colors are even more vibrant in person, still trying to figure out this cannon. T5's for life.
