I know there’s POTM and whatnot, but noticed there’s no banners for Photographers (or at least I don’t think so).

Having a “R2R Photo Crew” banner will solidify that a members question is answered to the best of their knowledge. If they’re seeking feedback or critique, we provide it with the upmost respect and thorough guidance.

Which leads me to creating a photo critique thread. A place where we can offer REAL feedback to members photos of aquariums, fish, corals, etc.

Example:

This is a great photo but I noticed a few things you can improve on or make changes to. The clouds can use a bit more white and they get lost in the sky. Making the whites pop will add contrast and stick out. If you can, I’d would remove the specular highlights. Our eyes gravitate towards the highest point of contrast and could take away from the photo. If you want to add a bit more mood to the photo, I would darken the spots that I highlighted. Doing that will strengthen the photo, emphasize the motion and add much more drama to the photo. All in all, this is a great photo and I like the 1 second exposure to show the movement of the waves. If you need help with the editing, I’ll be happy to help.
(Pictured below)

Feedback like this makes us better photographers. I hope this will improve members photography skills. Knowing what to look for and how to edit, makes you money (selling fish or corals). Or putting out the best quality photo for POTM.

I would like to gauge the audience and see if this is something we can do and who’s interested.

I can work on club rules and guidelines.

Also, the name isn’t set and stone

I asked for a Canon EOS Rebel T7. It will be my first nice camera so I’m going to have to learn how to use it! I wanted it because I’m thinking of adding a lowboy frag tank to my system to sell corals but so many people sell frags around here I’m thinking of breeding shrimp and raising Copepods and culturing phyto instead. People are always looking for that stuff and I live NE of Atlanta and all the people who sell this stuff are on the other side of the city. I think I could get a lot of customers easily as many reefers from my local club live on this side of town.

Nice! That’s a great starting camera. It’ll serve you well.

that’s a good idea. Should get a lot of folks wanting that.

Count me in! I like the idea! I have Sony A6500 and looking to upgrade to a6600.
The 6400 is the one my friend Dave uses. It’s too expensive to ask my family to buy for me. I have grown children so I asked them and my husband to get together and split the cost if they wanted to

I like taking pics of coral and fish, but would be hesitant to try and critique anyone else's shots. I still have plenty to learn myself.

anyone is using macro lens on mirrorless or DSLR camera? Which filter you are using to remove blue light?

What’s the criteria and how do we make it special?

Great idea, I tried creating a few pictures critique threads for POTM 5 best vote for pics a while back but unfortunately those didn't get much traction. I do see the photography forum as a photography club though and indeed would be great for people to post their pics for critique and suggestions on areas for improvement.

As long as critique is constructive abd expresses how you think a photo would look better (technically or artistically) I see no harm in voicing ur thoughts about any pictur.
One thing about aquarium photography is that its very different approach for fish, coral, macro, top down, FTS so while one might do great st one type of shots there might still be room for improvement in other types. Anyone can give input on what they like and what they dont really like in a picture from a general look of the picture even if they weren't good photographers.
