I have two mj1200's in my 37 gal aquarium and things have not looked better. I'm at about 40x turnover and the zoas and palys are super happy.

Two MJmods in a 55 gallon tank and the zoas love it. Theres a lot of water flow going on in there.

First let me say that I have had some up close experience with how zoas will change and vary depending on the environment. My zoas for example, tend to stay thick so to speak. Their skirts seem to mostly be compact and of substance rather than long and thin. I think this is directly attributed to the LOW flow in the bottom of my tank.

For example, my cats eyes have nice thick skirts when most cat's eyes seem to be longer and thinner. Granted they are a little thinner than most of my other zoas, they are no where near as long and thin as the cat's eyes in my friends tank. He received his frag from me so I know they are of the same mother colony. Yet his are very long and thin. That being said, his zoas are right in the middle of a typhoon i like to call TUNZE!

So what do you think and what is your experience?

I've got a koralia #1 and a koralia nano and my return is an eheim 1048. that all amounts to about 750-800 gph in a 20 gallon display for 90% zoas and palys. they really seem to like it.

I have a 120 dedicated mostly to zoas.. I have a snapper external pump running with eductors and also running a SCWD with eductors. I also have 2 Vortechs on the tank and am running 2 x 175 MH 10k with 2x 136 pc solid actnic bulbs.
I have experimented with zoas low, middle and high and they all seem to thrive no matter what the flow is around them.
I can say that the ones on the sand bed seem to have longer stalks, the ones in the middle have shorter stalks and wide skirts and the ones up high have very short stalks and smaller skirts. All seem to grow very well and color is popping in all areas....
I also have a 200 gallon prop system with 40 gallon tanks stacked. the tanks are about 5-6 inches deep and the one that is filled with zoas have heavy flow with 3 x maxi jet 1200 and a 250 w MH 20k and 2x T5 39 w 10k's and they all have short stalks with wide skirts.
so in my experience it seems the ones closer to the bottom have a longer stalk like they are reaching for the light no matter what kind of flow is around them.
This has been my experience and is my .02....

Zoos can show there perffered area. They will grow faster in areas they perfer and will extend there foot toward better conditions or close up if flow or light to much. You want them low and well extended for best results.Many coral the same way , they will reach out for better conditions or close up or have poor color or growth or tissue resession from poor feeding. Just look for the signs.
