Got a 55g reef that needs a lid. I have some HOB equipment and I am thinking of adding a sump which would also be HOB. I'm looking into how to put a lid on this tank, so that I can both keep my fish that much safer from my cat and possibly keep a snowflake eel in there without it making an escape. I need something I can customize to fit around the HOB things, that won't block the light from my coral. I was thinking of using a net kit like what's sold at walmart for making screen door parts, but I'm unsure if that would be strong enough or rust. Any suggestions?

I have a 54 gallon Aqueon Corner Bowfront. It’s not drilled so I’m running a HOB Refugium and Overflow to my sump. Had a custom lid made by Artfully Acrylics. They did great work!

On my old bowfront tank I made a lid out of a big lexan sheet from Home Depot. You can easily cut it to fit however you need it to

10 years ago, our 20” chain link eel escaped through a 1/2” hole behind the HOB overflow.

A local store near me has an eel living in the pipes connecting his tanks together. He comes out periodically to snack on small fish.

Eels are magicians at getting through small spaces.
