as an LPS guy I have been thinking about this coral for a while now. I would love to start a conversation about:

general long term survive ability of this coral.
what to look out for when buying ( unfortunately I can only buy online )
tips and tricks to keep them happy and healthy.
placement and feeding

I love the idea of this coral but don't want to risk it if the odds are not good.

While I've only had one elegance (so not an expert with them), here is my experience so far. I got my elegance pretty early on (about 4 months from initial cycle) and have had it about 5 month or so now. I'd say it's actually been one of the more hardy corals I have in the tank. It's definitely grown in that time and always has it's tentacles fully expanded (except at night). I wouldn't hesitate to get another one.

I have mine under about 200 par with moderate flow and the following parameters:
Salinity: 1.026
PO4: .04 ppm
NO3: 1-2 ppm
Alk: 7.8
Calc: 450
MG: 1400

wow @CMO beautiful tank and nice elegance! I was looking at one but it sold out. thanks out gives me more time to research and feel into it. I stayed away from these beauties because of the mysterious syndrome often with them.

I think more and more ppl are having success with them?

I feed mine every other day and it just keeps growing. It now has three mouths. I have yet to do anything to upset it. It’s been transferred from tanks, moved from sand to rock to pvc base and just keeps on going. It is my showpiece and it sits slightly out of the direct beams of light from two AI Prime HDs. I started it out in a 10 gallon Nuvo and now it’s sitting in a 28 gallon JBJ. I feed it a mixture of mysis shrimp in a paste of reef chile. It was about the size of a quarter when I bought it and now it’s a little larger than a baseball. When I cut the powerheads off it’s the size of my open hand so around 7 1/2 inches. It’s been with me 8 months so far.

wow nice guys! looks like it you get in a good one it will do good then?

know i worry it might grow to much...haha they pack a pretty good sting correct?

Is that a toadstool a leather or some kind of gorg in the center back? Thing is beautiful

Its a Muricea elongata common name rust or spiny gorgonia.

I bought it from KPaqautics like 15 years ago.

here is a picture close to when I got it. It is the one directly in the back.

soon I will replace all the gorgs I lost.

Well, these palys don't seem to mind and are actually trying to eat on my my elegance's tentacles this morning :D. But, all kidding aside, they do seem to irritate corals as you can see by all the closed up polyps where the elegance tentacles have touched them.
