I have a mushroom leather coral that has gotten pretty big, maybe 12 inches tall. It has dropped babies a few times in my tank, and I usually get them out and let them attach to rubble and trade them to other reefers.
I found one the other day on the back of a rock covered with green Grandis Palys. It was on the opposite end of the tank from the mother. It has a good shape to it with a nice stalk, so I cut it off with a pair of scissors and tied it to a nice little piece of rock with fishing line hoping it will attach. The stalk is still on that big rock, so it might grow back and make another leather coral.
If I had not moved that rock, it would have been quite a while before I noticed this coral growing there. They grow pretty slow, so they are not really invasive, but some others are.
This is the leather coral with my Starry Blenny relaxing in it.
I also have a few red discosoma mushrooms growing from a colony I sold a while back. They are hard to get rid of, but I am keeping an eye on them.
This got me thinking.
How many of you let corals grow where they propagate themselves?
