Lettuce nudibranch

How old is your tank? Diatoms are generally part of "the uglies" or a new tank and will go away eventually on their own. If your tank is not new than you may have an issue with silicate contamination (possible from RO/DI). Either way, I've never heard of them eating diatoms. They do great with GHA and are also photosynthetic. Cerith snails will eat diatoms.

My tank is about 5 weeks old. I can see some brown diatoms on my sand and my rock is slightly covered in very very small brown hair. Should I return the little guy or is there something I could feed him?

Tough call on returning him. Your tank could definitely go through some changes that would upset or even kill the nudibranch. The diatoms and your tank's age are definitely a sign that your tank is going through these changes and the diatoms will subside over the next week or two. If you are dead set on keeping him make sure you have strong lighting and try feeding some aquarium Nori. Also they will get sucked into any powerheads or overflows you have if those are not guarded with mesh.
