levamisole in tank treatment

hey! guess what!!! im back!!!! YAY!!!!
after months of searching... looking under the microscope... i found what appeared to be hatched AEFW eggs.... after dipping... i was able to find them!
this will be a good lavemasol in tank treatment trial... saturday night, after finding them... (actually bill found them for me) i dosed lavemasol... 4.5g for my tank... which i am conservatively estimating 300 gal.
after 12 hours i did a 30g water change and put the carbion back online... the fish are definately ticked... but other than that... noting drastic... i dont know if you remember the infamous little red worms... but after the 12 hour lavemasole tratment... those little buggers are still alive...i think im going to up my dose to the full 5g for 300g next week... day one of 5 weeks... ill keep you posted...

for those of you skeptics... i should let you know that once again... monti's and caps were my first indicators of a problem... they are all dead already... i have searched and searched... and found nothing out of the ordinary until saturday when i first found the remains of aefw eggs.

48 hour update... so far everything looks good... some of the smaller sps that were suffering the most have rtn'd and are now skeleton... but that was only a couple... the rest seem to look uneffected... the PE is better than before the treatment...

so... as of today this is what im observing...

fish... all acting semi normal with the exception of the copperband... he's still pouting... but from looking at him... i think he'll be fine
large starfish... seems to be recovering and begining to move... slowly
brittle stars... still mostly in shock..
blue legs... hit and miss...
anemone... uneffected
LPS.. uneffected
sps... mostly uneffected (visibly... with the exception of better PE)
skimmer did not explode
ph and other levels... no notable changes

over all i see no reason to not contiunue the treatment... are the AEFW dead? who knows.

dosing the second treatment right now... put it in this morning... noticing pretty much the same thing as last week... lps fine... looking at the tank i would guess there is a depletion of oxygen happening in the water... i decided this week to keep the skimmer running as i have noticed it doesnt seem to be skimming any more than usual.

i upped the dose to 5g from 4.5... i dont see any more stress than last week.

the sps that were struggling the most are still declining... although slowly.

anemone are still fine...

fish are ticked...

ive noticed a HA growth spurt

nothing as tragic hapening as bad as the AEFW... i spot checked some of my water today... i see lots of things floating in the water column... however found nothing i could identify as an AEFW.

PE is getting better throughout the week... and even now with the levamisole in the water... the PE is really good...

mel- u finding anything in the filter socks? for the O2 to be dropping you know something has been killed and is decomposing. I am curious what you are seeing in the water column.

week 3... i did the full 5mg / 300g again... this time though... instead of 12 hours... i decided to leave it in for 36 hours... i read that in fresh water application.. you can leave it in for a week... although... nobody has much information for salt... after the first few hours i noticed that one of my colonies had pretty much given up... half of it had RTN'd within just a few hours... at the end of the day i debated on doing the water change and turning back on the carbon... after looking at the tank... seeing that most of the remaining colonies had decent PE and the fish weren't too devistated... i decided to let it go... 36 hours later... the only thing i noticed... the other half of the "give up" colony had given up too... but im sure it would have not made it even if i pulled out any earlier anyway...

after 36 hours... i turned on the carbon... and did a 25g water change... as of today.... everything looks stable...

lps.. uneffected
good PE on the SPS... however i dont have high expectation for them... although...better expectations than not treating.
fish... all are fine minus one copperband butterfly... who remains ticked off... but he always does when i treat... i expect that he'll be better tomorrow.

ill be doing a random check for bugs and worms here in a day or so... im letting the water become less irritable to my skin.

i checked the filter socks... so much crud in there... it was difficult to pick out anything in particular... nothing there visible to the naked eye... too much to interprate under the microscope... did see some interresting bugs... ill post them in a different thread to maybe help identify.

ok... so its the day after week 4 of treatment... i dosed the 5g again... this time leaving it in for only 24 hours... one thing changed last week when i left it in for 36 hours... my CBB took 4 days before he would eat again... normally it only takes 2..

about half of the sps that were in the tank to begin with are totally nuked... the other half look really good considering the extreme treatment...

lps... all are uneffected.
large starfish... fine.
fish... all fine... minus the cbb... but he'll be fine im sure.
anemone... surprisingly... one of them is pouting today... nothing drastic.. but havent noticed them being effected until today.. and just one..
also i have a tuxedo urchin... i havent listed him previously... but he's uneffected
clean-up crew... toast!
i have a continued HA bloom...
levels seem to be relatively uneffected.

i have introduced a couple of small colonies of sps during the last week to see what effect there is on them being dumped into a tank being treated like so far... PE and color remain normal... ill keep you posted if anything changes...

i have spot checked a few pieces of coral.. and have not found anything... everything looks clean... over thanksgiving weekend.. im going to totally demolish my tank... cutting every piece of coral... exaining every rock... if i find nothing i will do one last week 5 treatment... and be done with it... if i find anything that even looks remotely similar to EAFW or those darn little red worms... i will begining a new thread. " BLEACH IN TANK TREATMENT"

final report... i did the full levamisole 6 weeks at the dosage listed previously... it ultimately ended up killing my CBB which is sad... i wish i had a place to move him during the treatment... it could have been avoided if i had taken the effort.. other than that... AEFW were killed... unfortunately... it did not kill all the worms in the system... ie: the suspect worms... but i certainly saw a decrease in their population... the sps that was healthy survived... the sps that were not did not... i can conclude that in my experiment... it is worth doing.... it did destroy the AEFW population.. although.. i did not have a large population to begin with...

all of the LPS survived the treatment...
all but one of the fish survived the treatment...
all anenome survived the treatment....
all large starfish large linkia (SP) star fish survived the treatment...
most of the clean-up crew (snails) survived the treatment...
a few of the crab clean-up crew survived the treatment...
the tuxedo urchin survived the treatment...

things i noticed... the was a HUGE alge spike... and my PO4 raised to 1.9ppm... alk, ph, cal, mag, and other levels remained stable throughout the treatment...

if i had to deal with AEFW again... i would absolutely use levamisole again...
