Leveling mat under aquarium, where to buy

Hello,

I am looking for a leveling Mat for underneath an aquarium. I was thinking about the one in the picture below but does anyone use anything else that can be picked up at like Home Depot, menards, Loews ?

Wondering why you would not use that product. The price is right. Yoga mats are an option but more costly.

I'm with P-Dub on this one. $20 sounds like a pretty sweet deal for a low profile leveling mat like that. Wish I would have put one of those under my acrylic tank.

Really? Styrofoam? That stuff comes in so many different densities there is no way you can specify it by just saying styrofoam. If you got the wrong density at 1/2” the tank would immediately crush it.

Nope, styrofoam is recommended for rimless tanks. Each manufacturer will suggest the best product for their tank.

No, it’s not. I have a rimless tank and I would never put styrofoam under it. Something like a yoga mat is the way to go.

Glass Cages and Miracles specifically recommend it. In fact, ship it with your tank.

Styrofoam (Expanded white little ball type) is recommended by virtually every Custom tank manufacturer out there for TRIMLESS tanks. In fact using yoga mats or other extruded styrofoam on them will void your warranty. Always best to speak with the tank manufacturer directly about what type of foam to use if any atall.

And FWIW yoga mats come in endless densities as well so it is just as ridiculous to reccomend one of those as it is to say styrofoam.

Great, specify a density. You get it dense enough it’ll work. But what the original post was “glass cages says use 1/2” styrofoam” is what i think is a useless recommendation by them.

I think we are likely disagreeing on what we are calling “styrofoam”. something like a yoga mat or the IM diy mat isn’t really styrofoam to me and certainly isn’t 1/2 thick. A yoga mat is made out of PVC or rubber and is fairly dense for such a thin material. Styrofoam is expanded polystyrene and depending on the kind has a completely different ratio of air to material. For example, there is no way I am taking the sheet that come on my flat screen tv and putting it under my tank. But you give me a sheet of the polystyrene used to makesome of the safety features in my car, yea that’s probably work. Though not a 1/2” IMO.

Not sure what that comment was directed at? I haven't either.

The point was all yoga mats aren't made the same and they can have multiple different densities and will take heavy loads differently as well. So to say you reccomend yoga mats and not a specific type is the exact same thing as recommending Styrofoam without specifying a specific type.

Either way, if someone is looking for a mat to put under there tank they need to not ask here and speak with there tank manufacturer directly as mentioned multiple times above, each tank manufacturer may have a different recommendation. I feel it's irresponsible to reccomend something that may or may not void a warranty on someone else's tank.

For example if I took your advice and threw a yoga mat or even extruded foam under my tank, well I just Voided my tank warranty based off your advice.
