Soooooo, yeah I saw an ich spot on my sail-fin last night. Here's a run down of the scenario, and ideas/tips regarding my plan of remedy would be greatly appreciated from those that came before
It's a 140 DT with a 40gal sump, total water volume is about 160 gal.
* I cycled rocks in a barrel with microbacter and dead shrimp starting 7 months ago. Got the System up and running a month and a half ago while QT'ing it's first fish, a pair of tank bred clowns using TTM method. Added them when done, np at all. Then added couple cardinals and a blenny but only did 3/4 of the TTM cause of some chromis issues (one was ripping the throats out of the other fish and to save them I added them a little early....thinking this is where the ICH came in, but they have shown no signs....so dunno). Got a juvenile sail-fin, did TTM again, put in DT after the process and a week in he's got a couple spots that look like salt...one on side fin, one on tip of back fin, so I'm thinking it's ICH...hopefully not velvet.
SOOOO my plan is this....and please chime in with thoughts..
I have 1 invert, a cleaner shrimp, I think I can catch him easy enough and put in a separate tank. Then I was going to put the entire system through 8 weeks of Hyposalinty to kill the ich on all fish without having to rip everything apart to catch all the fish and put them in a tiny stressful QT tank. I have no macro algae yet, just the rock/skimmer/socks/water change filtration atm. Then for the 8 weeks I'd do regular water changes to keep the system clean, then slowly bring back the salinity after a time. Edit: I also like this idea cause the DT system has an ATO to keep salinity stable....then I guess just need to worry about amonia/pH.
My big concern is with the rock bacteria....will this sterilize the bacteria on them, or create weird cycles? Finding a lot of conflicting information on this. Basically I guess this is like doing hypo on a FOWLR?
Any advice and thoughts appreciated.
