Hi

I went to buy a RO unit today as I will shortly need to start doing water changes as we added our first 3 hermit crabs. Unfortunatly they do not stock them and would order them in, as as we discussed this he started to talk about adding in an ozone generator from TMC and a UV steralizer. Does anyone have any thoughts on if these are a good idea or not?

as you can tell a very young tank of about 275l. If i will need these later but not know please advise as well.

many thanks

Jason

Water is the single largest ingredient in a reef system so get the RO/DI unit first then study up on the others. While I 100% recommend a UV for a heavily stocked fish only system I do not recommend them for a reef system. They inactivate and eventually kill off the good along with the bad meaning you deprive your tank of a very important, necessary part of the food chain. Kill the small stuff and the pods decline, declining pods means whatever eats them starves and so on all the way up the food chain. Ozone can be beneficial when adjusted properly but I wouldn't worry about one until you have a better understanding of how they work, what they can and can't do and the dangers they can pose if not sized and adjusted properly.

I agree with AZDesertRat- start off with the basics. You can move on to ozone and UV if you feel the need later.
