My local LFS had a beautiful 225g...display tank that was full of amazing corals, clams, fish.....I mean just a gorgeous tank.

Apparently while servicing the Kalk, reactor system they forgot to turn the controller to on and left it on the run position which also triggered the ATO..

Upon opening the store in the am.....there was water flowing out the front door. Every thing in the tank was dead.....everything.

This display tank housed many of the stores main colonies of lps, sps, zooanthids, clams, some àmazing fish, many frags , some amazing plateing/table corals they had for yrs. They would frag, and frag and frag from these colonies

IDK how much money was involved but $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

one mistake when doing maintenance, and getting distracted can trigger a massive change reaction.

That totally sucks. I am suprised they didnt have an water bug setup to detect water on the floor. It might of been to late with all the kalk for the corals anyway.

There's no reason now a days to not have an apex controller on a large, mature system like that. It could have saved the tank no problem. They would have received an email alert and the apex could have shut off the kalk reactor/ATO. And don't say its because the APEX is expensive. 500 bucks for a system that would save you thousands of dollars of lost live stock is nothing.
Sucks to hear about though, sorry for their loss

Omg I would have an aneurysm!!! Sorry for the loss. A total tragedy, but when servicing a system, especially a large system I like to think of it as servicing an aircraft as so many components involved it only takes one to completely cause a crash and burn.
Maybe I'm just a worry wart, but I'm always checking and re checking all systems and components before and after service j just for peace of mind, kinda like a take off check list.
I agree an apex or similar controller would have definitely helped in this situation our any other system failure. I can't believe there wasn't redundancy back ups for such a valuable system.
Hope you make it and sorry again for your losses

>_< That's horrible! You said that had most of their colonies, let's hope the business doesn't crash with it :(

Even the pros have mistakes and *** moments... It is always a bad deal when the livestock suffer by our mistakes and even worse when a investment in a apex controller could have saved the livestock.
