Lid problem

I am starting a 10 gallon saltwater tank and I have never had a lid on it. It is a very new saltwater tank and has no stocking however I would like to stock it and I dont want anything crawling or jumpin out. I would like to get a mesh top however, my filter would block it. Do I diy it and what is the best way af going about that?
