Just added a mature lieutenant tang to my fleet today, it's been in my DT for about 7 hours now and I've noticed that is been swimming to the surface and breathing out of the water. I have numerous other fish in the tank, none of them are doing the same as the tang. I've been monitoring the tang and he did not seem to be grasping for air or breathing heavy. Any suggestions as to what is going on?

Great fish. I had one but it never showed anything like that. It was a open water swimmer using every inch of my 210 tank. I picked it up from LA/DD and it was probably 3" or so. Over the course of a year it grew to about 8".

I have no answer but just wanted to chime in to say they are really great fish, very active swimmers, always on the move, but grow fast :)

Agreed, they are great fish.... All my tangs are, I have a mature yellow, mature lieutenant and a very large naso. They all get along great and are all extremely docile, so much as that they let me pet them while I'm working in the tank.

Hi i have seen my Dussemeri anf Fowleri do the same thing> dont have a reason but its normal behavior. Thanks
