First and most important .
I’ll welcome myself back again … it’s been a little while since I’ve been here .

Actually .. my last post was regarding moving this 230 .

Fast forward to today .
After a separation that was in the process of happing for a very long time.
I am ready for the tank to be moved to the new place .
I have hired a mover and they’re coming nov 13th
Problem is … where the tank is now . It’s my old apartment where the passed is currently residing .

What’s the best , safest and easiest way to prepare for the move ?
Fish are my top priority and there really isn’t much for corals to worry about .
The last 2 moves didn’t end well and lost everything both times .
Let’s not repeat that part .

All opinions are welcome .

@brandon429 I don’t ask for a lecture or a 1000 page work thread but to prepare …
And to guarantee no losses ..

I know of a few people who used a kitty pool filled with SW and a few of their rocks (and other life support systems) to house their fish for a bit, while moving the whole system over

Unless the other party has a "it all has to go today" policy... then brute bins and have 1.2x your system made up of salt water at the new place. Warm and ready to fill the tank... since theres no coral to worry about all that really matters is temp + S.G

There are corals .
Palys , gsp and Xenia .
The issue is having even 200 gals of water ready .
Where would I possibly store 400+ gallons of water mixed and ready to use

This is actually a great idea.
To only keep the dog out of it …

Rubbermade stock tanks are almost always in stock at your local farm supply store. Might be able to find some on the marketplace too.

A bit of rock, some old tank water and mostly new water should be OK for the fish in the bins. Just don't feed them a lot at first. I have even put skimmers against the side of stock tanks wedged in with some rocks - don't forget gas exchange in the bins and skimmers are awesome at this. If you don't have a skimmer, point a pump up and really agitate the top of the water.

2 moves - one to get the fish, rock and some water. Then another to get the hardware. Hope you can swing this...

Just wondering why you lost everything in past moves. Did you move sand and put fish back in too soon?
First time was moved in -40°c temp

Next was a transfer from a 90-230 and added a few hand fills of sand from the 10 year old 90 gal system

Wash the sand, replace it or give it time alone (no corals, inverts, fish, etc.) for the appropriate bacterias to die off and establish again. It is that easy. It is not so much the gunk in the sand that is a problem, but the live organic material in there has established to be oxic or anoxic and they will die if the oxygen level changes... mini crash style, but they do appear to die off and re establish quickly. In the end, any of these will work out if you have a long enough thread and blame the deaths on something else to declare success. :)

Some sand is OK to reseed if you take it from the top, oxic level.

NEVER reuse sand on a move. Ive also learned that lesson.
I’m sure it was the hard way as well .

Funny thing .
I’ve had and moved tanks for many years
It was recommended to use sand to “seed” or instant cycle a new system .
Wonder where all this false information in the 90’s came from

IDK. I can tell you ive moved with sand and lost near everything and my last move was 100% new rinsed sand and the tank didnt miss a beat.
For the small cost of new sand its worth it to me.
