Lifeguard UV - Has anyone tried?

never been to marine and reef gonna look into it..Either way Amazon and marine and reef still cheaper then the other on line guys...
 
I am going to pipe mine with it's own pump with a controller so I can dial in the speed of flow and have the pump in the last chamber of the sump and then also return the UV'ed water to the last chamber of the sump near the return pump to tank. Less pipe and when I turn the sump off for feeding the UV will just keep recirculating water instead of me having to turn it off to prevent it running dry. When I turn my sump off to feed, the only thing that gets turn off is the return pump, everything else, skimmer, reactors, UV etc stay on and sump just recirculates,
 
I have a 55 watt at home and I really like it. I have used AquaUVs for years but after looking at the lifegard next to the AquaUV they look to have very similar build quality and the Lifegard is far cheaper plus it has some features the Aqua UV does not have.

I really like the replaceable inner sleeve and the ballast that counts down. The ballast will also sound an audible alarm if it detects a short. I have had multiple times in the past where I checked a UV and found the bulb was out but I had no idea how long it was out for. In my 2 years with my lifeguard, I had a power surge once that destroyed my lamp. Apex reported 50 amps through the Power Bar. I reset the breaker to turn everything back on and immediately the Ballast beeped at me letting me know the bulb was bad.
 
Do you have a pic of how that is plumbed I am interested in doing the same with mine

Ok, so why didn’t you just hook it to the manifold with 3 valves on it? Just asking because that’s my plan, I have an open 1”
 
I did, that’s how it’s plumbed. Goes from return pump to manifold, manifold to inlet on UV, UV outlet back to return line to DT.
 
When I first hooked mine up I plumbed it so the pump was in the skimmer chamber and it exited to the return chamber. Didn’t work so well, the sump ran backwards. Thanks for the tips, I have to give this a try
 
I've got mine sitting in front of the sump in a closed looped. Water enters from two intakes inside the tank then back out to the tank.

Have one too 55W HO, great unit, parts easily available, has internal sleeve that both protects the housing and reflects UV. They redesigned the bulb fitting to one with double seal so there should be no issues on that front. Parts easy to get, come quickly. Really, what's not to like.

Hoping it wont suffer the same kind of fate as the other brand pushed by BRS - just read the reviews of housing disintegrating/melting, that's crazy that nothing has been done about it.
