Hi

So I have had my first lifestock for 3 days now.
I've got 2 clowns and 2 hermits.
I got a few questions
1. Is it normal for clowns to be chasing their own reflections? They are eating. But its just weird that they spend a lot of time on their own reflection.
2. My Large hermit was very active in the start but he has been hiding a few times in dark holes and crevices in the rock work, for hours at a time and just sits there.
So are this normal or should I be worried?

So I’m pretty sure the inside of the tank, looking out isn’t a reflection or mirror to our fish. My clowns act the same way in one corner. It’s where they feel safe. As for your crab is there available live rock where he can pick around on. Also he may need a larger shell to transfer into.

He has a lot of rock to crawl on I think got like 22 pounds in my 33 gallons and plenty of caves for him to go. He has also been on the highest point in the rock work many times. He just goes into these crevices and stays there for hours.

Just make sure he’s got food. Often time crabs and snails are the last to eat if they get any food at all. Our fish pick it off before it even reaches the bottom.

I thought those were for freshwater, well now I know that. :D
They are eating algae currently, but should I also target them pallets? I have got some special invert food. :)
If they are eating algae than you don't need to target feed them.

So it's just normal then if they just sit still for a few hours and then move/eat after that?
Like someone said earlier he could need a new shell. Other than that he could be sleeping digesting or eating algae that is in the crevasses. I belive he's fine. Have you noticed this behavior in your other hermit?

Actually my smaller one also just started but instead of sitting in the crevasses, he sits on top of the rock where there are a lot of algae so think he might be eating them.

Edit: The larger one just sits places where there are no algae and no light

Alright. Yea he is probably fine just keep and eye on him make sure he doesn't stop eating.

Clownfish are weird until they get comfortable in the tank. Can take years. :) They will calm down and begin battling with each other for dominance at some point (assuming yours are juveniles).

The hermits are a bit nocturnal and will move less during the day. Sometimes mine sit around and others they are active. Very normal. They will scavenge for food. Also, do have some shell options when they grow. They can be picky.

Good luck!

I'm about to order some.
But this might be a dumb question. I live very close to a beach that is pretty much empty half of the year.
Can pick some shells that I might find there put them in after I have of course boiled them first?
