Hi I just got this young orange shoulder tang and she is in my 40g quarantine tank. She's been eating algae very great twice a day. She's been in there for about two weeks now and I just noticed the spots this morning. The tank is a hypo-salinity tank at 1.017. I do that cause the medications are tough on the fish. I've tried googling the spots and keep coming up with black ich and it looks nothing like it and if black ich is anything like regular ich it can't survive at that salinity. Please let me know what you guys think.

Doesn't look like Black Ich to me. Might be the fish color change in maturity.
Also, Hypo for killing ich is done at 1.009, not 1.017, so Ich may survive in that QT at that level.

I've heard that going below 1.015 really stresses them out. So your saying its ok to maintain that level the entire time their in the quarantine tank?

So even if I drip her in to the main tank without raising the salinity in the quarantine tank it still is stressful for her?

Anything like that is stressful. So leaving the fish alone is very important to do, once you've figured out what your going to do.
