hi guys i need your help. I have a 120x55x55 (cm) reef with a 35-40 cm wide rocky structure. I raise only acropore and a few lps. what would be the best lighting for my reef. I want to have a light that allows me to have amazing colors in the acropora.

there is a problem though ... I've never seen beautiful reefs with kessil or radion ... but I've seen fantastic reefs with t5 ... I'm a little confused

Go with what you know if that is what you are comfortable with. Nobody can go wrong with a T5 lit tank.

Hello

This topic and subject is so opinionated it’s scary. What’s worse is everyone is in theory correct, they have produced amazing tanks. For example I my tank had done amazing with acros and I use current marine pros model 4117 and my tank is a 240 which is 72 long 34 tall and 24 deep. My lights are super strong and easily reach the sand bed.

Yet people have used kessill radions Chinese black boxes etc. people have used metal h they have used t5 they have mixed them who knows. But here is probably the most important part, which is you, yourself must like how the tank and lights work for you. I can’t get the same color and growth from another light so I keep them. But corals adapt to their lights so do not change stick with what you get.

I have seen beautiful tanks done by all lighting and they all are good options. People always say you get what you paid for, (that is such a lie and not true). There are some lights lots of lights that cost 1/3 of radions etc and easily do the same thing grow coral and make it pretty.

Lights are only a part of the equation when it comes to this hobby. There are many more aspects to it then I have the most expensive lights well I’ll have the nicest tank. So not true. If you want s true challenge use the under dog lights and equipment and produce an amazing tank. Not only does it save you money, but you get a gorgeous reef also. I went with mostly underdog equipment (average ) and I have had amazing success and it saved me lots of money and they have proven to be more reliable than the expensive ones.

Create your own tank and it’s much easier to do that than copy others.

Thanks for the reply. yes it's a dobe topic everyone can express their opinion ... in the past I tried t5 very beautiful light and colorful corals but at the same time flat ... I asked for advice because I wanted to try to use a light combining t5 with something that could give me a light with more fluorescence and maybe with reverberation effect like in the sea ... but I don't know where to start ..

Aquaticlife t5 hybrid & kessil 360X’s. They give shimmer and make corals fluoresce a lot. Get the controller with it so you can raise the uv to get the glow your looking for.
Other lights do this to, I just have first hand experience with these.

how many kessil for the reef I indicated? with ati Hybrid or aquaticlife and radion do I get the same effect?

Any hybrid will be the same effect, radions are more powerful than kessils or AI’s, so if you have a lot of high light acros and a big budget that’s a good option to.

so if you had to choose the best combination for the reef in question what should I use? ati hybrid (how many t5) or t5 + led? (how many t5 and what led (radion kessil or others?))

I do not buy into the best-of-both-world paradigm either in reefing or life. Some people are OK with it. I just never had any success trying to be aggressive and also reserved at the same time... never saw a team with a running and throwing QB do any good... and Hannah Montana was neither focused enough on her pop career nor being a normal kid to be good at either. :) I decide what I want and go all-in. For me, this is pure performance, so I am Metal Halide all the way... no T5s or LEDS and I use every watt on the MH.

If you are the kind of person who likes to decide and go all-in, then do this. If you still want to use both kinds of lights, then I would suggest at least 4x T5 bulbs since most people who go hybrid will often end up with 4 if they start with two. The LED are more up to you since apps and stuff can matter to some people, but there are happy hobbyists with anything from high end Orphek and Radions to cheap Black Boxes in hybrid situations.
