Hey guys... I’ve finished my Fallow for ich and I’m about to start introducing healthy fish into the DT. My hippo looks a little funny. He looks like he’s just dull and not the vibrant blue I’ve seen him before. Everyone in the tub he’s in have been treated with CP, Prazi, and Antibiotics. I see no Ich, Velvet or Brook on anyone. He still eats like a champ but just doesn’t look brightly colored. Am I being paranoid or maybe he has a bacterial issue or something?

I see not spots on him and he’s not dusty like velvet would be, nor is he sliming or anything. It’s like maybe his slime coat isn’t there? Idk. Any ideas?

Hepatus tang changes color (and hides) when stressed and when going to sleep, it becomes pale yellow, almost white.

If is swimming and eating well during the day, should be fine.

Regards

That’s what I was thinking could be it also... I’m also being pretty paranoid right now. I’ve been very patient to eradicate disease from my DT. I’m giving all my healthy fish a final inspection before starting to put them back in.

I wouldn't stress too much. Mine has more personality than all other tangs. He's wild one minute out and about. 10 minutes later he's hiding on his side (you think he's dead or close to it) 10 more minutes and he's back to active. Their behavior is much different than Acanthurus or zebrasoma tangs.

Hopefully he’s just stressed with me starting to catch everyone to move them to the DT. He looked horrible. I didn’t move him just in case. Gonna see how he looks tomorrow

Unless you see redness, spots, dustings, heavy breathing, swimming in to powerheads, scratching, flashing, or twitching — I’d just chalk it up to being like most other hippo tangs — really really odd! :)

When I received my first Hippo tang, the first day I was curious about his behavior and I watched him closely ... at night he chose a burrow among the rocks to sleep on and later I went to look at him to see if he was good.

I found him completely immobile, rigid, without any color, wedged between two rocks, I thought he was dead!

I quickly thrust my arm into the aquarium and began to remove the rocks to reach it ... halfway up he woke up, swam around like an arrow, and slowly regained his color as he circled the aquarium.

It was just a big fright.

Regards

I put him in the display. He almost immediately looked better. He’s not 100% but he still ate like crazy and isn’t hiding like he was in the tub.

Did you treat the fish fully, first?

For sure. He’s been fully cured and stuck in a tub for like 80 days. I think he’s been getting picked on by my Naso. Thus why he was almost always hiding in the tub. He’s been out almost the whole time in the Display.

That’s great news!
