Got my XR15 light diffuser coming in the mail. I’m pretty sold on the concept..makes sense. Just going have to grab me a PAR meter and dial it in. Was going to go the route of adding T-5’s but hoping this will do the job of weeding out hot spots and shadow casting on SPS.

Let me know how it works out for you, i'm considering getting the slight diffusers for my AP700

I get that it can help with the hot spots and maybe some color blending, but how can it help with shadows? The diffuser did not move the light any farther out, does it? I am genuinely curious what it does.

You won’t need them.
I metered them at macna. Almost dead smooth across a 24x48 tank.

Check out Boomcorals ap700 threads if you haven’t already.

I saw his frag tank when he had the AP700 over it. Looked pretty good. I was just wondering if it would help with potential shadowing down the road when I upgrade to my 75 eventually lol. But I won't get them if you think there's no point to them :)

It spreads it more evenly so it bounces of the glass and other surfaces better. Rather than just spot lighting.

You can experiment with a flashlight and a piece of paper.

In my line of work, it’s referred to as building the ambient levels.

No. Proper placement or more pucks.
That’s really a set and forget Light.

I’d encourage you to play with it.

A $15 lux meter is pretty eye opening.
I've got the seneye, but I haven't had a whole lot of time to play around with it. I put the light up and got my Par to where I wanted, and haven't gone any further with it.

Turned into a ap700 kessil thread instead of a XR15. [emoji848] I guess the general idea of a diffuser goes for both.

I'm thinking I might put a diffuser on my middle XR 30 but leave the ends alone. The middle light I've been running 5% less to prevent overlapping middle hotspot.

You need the lux meter with the ball or disk btw.
The seney is different

Lights r Lights basically.

I have acrylic squares for the SB BB’s on my 55s.

If you would , I’d love to know how much intensity is lost with the new diffusers.

What's the differences in measuring with this or a PAR meter?
This measures intensity alone.
Or brightness.

A par meter is a more finely tuned lux meter and only allows the correct or Active frequencies to hit the sensor.
So it’s spectrum + intensity basically.

Kessil readings from a Par meter.?
I belive that is a RUM. (Rainbow unicorn meter). ;)

They actually belive you can’t use a par meter to effectively meter thier Lights , and hint at the need to use PUR as better guideline. (There’s no pur meter btw)

All Light can Be metered with a lux/ footcandle meter and a par meter.
But a Light can be very bright with very low par.

Very interesting.
I do have both, but got very confused when trying to do anything with them not single, makes more sense....A little more.
