Umm okay this is a strange one today i went to empty my collection cup on my skimmer expecting the usual mucky brown sewer water. Instead i discovered this light green/almost blue water

Couple theories here
I dose couple things through my top off water and lately due to hot weather my evaporation rate has increased could it be from increased chemicals ?

Had a heat spike where my tank sat at a toasty 89 degrees for a couple hours cause off a really hot day here in ny ,
Maybe it has something to do with that

I have increased feeding due to addition of a small school of green chromies maybe its an algea bloom

Currently batteling cyano

Any thoughts or theories?

Do you feed ocean nutrition formula 2 (flakes, pellets, or frozen)? I see this question pop up every few years and it has been associated with that in the past (although plenty of people feed formula 2 without green/blue skimmate).

Going from thick mucky skimmate to light green would indicate to me a change in surface tension in the water.
Which still leads me to believe it is cyanobacteria.

I never though of cyano as something that could end up in the skimmer also fairly shurr cyano would sink and group up, alzo there is no light on my skimmer cup

If the cyanobacteria are feeding/growing on organics in the water column they can get caught up in the skimmer. On the positive side, I bet the skimmate doesn't smell nearly as bad since it has a biofilm around it!

I would also guess your DT water is at least slightly cloudy. Make sure you keep your O2 levels up. Watch your fish to make sure they aren't breathing rapidly.

I'm thinking cyano as well, currently battling red cyano in one of my tanks and after scrubbing I develop red skimmate and it smells strongly of algae.
