Hey,

So this may be my paranoia more then anything,

I have purchased an Old Arcadia Series 4 MH pendant which weighs in at about 25kg. I have 3 joists in the ceiling but I don't know what would be best to attach to the joists to attach to the pendant (The spacing is wrong to attach direct, and i have some plasterboard between). I have some 18mm hardwood ply, or I could put up a 2x4 or similar. My main concern is the whole pendant is held up by 2 rather small screws on the end of the steel wire, is there a risk they will be pulled out?

Interested to hear what others have done.

Cheers

I can’t answer the specific question, but I can bump the thread to see if we can get you some help

My pendent is in the ceiling with butterfly anchors through the drywall. Very sturdy. I was surprised.

Ive decided that even if they were "enough" I wouldn't be comfortable, so I have decided to put up a shelf and hang the lights from that, using 4inch bolts though a scaffold board, I'm then going to put two eye hooks on the board, and two in the ceiling joist and connect them with some rope, so if the shelf falls, there is a redundancy.

Its overkill... But a 4000 volt light unit above 400 litres of water makes me want to add a little extra.

Thanks everyone

lol I'm laughing because my sig other just asked me what the heck I was doing..... I went over to lift the whole thing to try to feel how heavy it might be. MY GUESS is that it's about 15-20lbs.

I have to say though.... I feel comfortable with it carrying much more weight after installing the butterfly anchors. I used the butterfly anchors for my all-in-one light mirrors in my bathrooms too and those are like 30-40 lbs. The construction field is amazing to me.
