When in doubt, it's always better to under light than over light a coral. Under lighting will often turn a coral brown as the brown symbiotic algae multiply to compensate for the lack of sufficient light, but it typically won't die unless severely under lighted over an extended period. Severe over lighting can cause death in a relatively short time due to the formation of excess ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species such as hydrogen peroxide, and others) within the coral tissue.
