Hey my fellow Aquarist . I need some help deciding what should be my next purchase . I had in mind to buy a new ai prime hd+ but then I starting thinking to myself should I use that budget on a light for a new setup or should I focus on filtration for my aot (skimmer or media basket) . I'm currently running a IM skimmer that my solana came with the day of my purchase from another fella. Thank you in advance !

Light. You skimmer is ok. You can go for something fancy like aquamax 1.5 HOB or Tunze DOC ... but once dialed in your current skimmer might not be that bad. Light on the other hand will be useful from early one (acclimation as well as coral types) . You can revamp your filtration later as well, when bioload increases due to new fish and corals.
Also consider using a intank media rack with chemipure blue for chemical filtration. They are very effective.

I'd go for the light. Then you can add display macro to help filter :-D

(I'm a strong proponent of macroalgae for filtration, as it's effective/cheap/low maintenance)
