I broke one of the glass inserts that cover the metal halide's on my coralife 72" fixture. I have had glass cut from 2 different glass shops and all are too thick. Yes, I did take one of the other peices in for comparison and to get the same size cut. I have 2 geismann 150DE magna Chrome and one Radium 150DE.

My question is do I have to have a glass sheild? Are the bulbs not already uv protected? And if I do does anyone know where I can get a replacement from Coralife?? I have tried several times to find a source and have not been successful.

Any help would be appreciated. Debbie

if the bulbs are SE then they have an outer jacket that is UV protected but if they are DE, then no. you need UV glass to protech your corals and fish from UV that is put out by the DE bulbs. even if the bulb is a SE "single ended/screw in bulb" the glass doesn protect the bulb from water splashing on it and braking it and the glass will protect you reflectors from water damage.

try calling coralife?
