I am in the middle of setting up my first saltwater tank. Im taking it slowly as im learning along the way. As when i fill my tank i want things to be perfect. So im going overkill on some parts so i dont pay for it in the long term. Anyway i bought the AI prime refugim edition. And i have it mounted on the flexible 18 inch mount. I know the light supposed to grow chaeto, and other algae thats going to be beneficial for my aquarium, but i wasnt sure if outside the sump algae would grow, and make issues around the refugim.

I would mount any fuge light a lot lower so it primarily illuminates that one section. It won't necessarily do any harm to grow algae in the other parts of the sump but unless you plan to clean out the other areas regularly (i.e. harvest the excess algae for nutrient export), you may end up with an unwanted mess. Not a dangerous mess, or even one that's hard to remedy, but it's probably best to start off on the right foot :).
(FWIW, I use a daylight bulb and a $10 clamp light from the hardware store on my fuge... It doesn't take specialty lighting to grow algae ;) )

I agree with the above. You want to try and avoid light spill into the other chambers. See how low my light is on my fuge chamber.
