So with the increased popularity of rimless tanks, there is much more light spillage entering the area outside of our tanks. Seeing that we have very intense lighting that lean towards the blue spectrum, is anyone else concerned about the effect this light spillage has on our skin and eyes?

I dont think its something to be overly concerned about. When you look at places like coral facilities and local fish stores who are in and around that lighting considerably more than the average reefer; They have never reported any I'll effects of being under or around the light for extended periods of time. Or at least not that I know of, so I think well be ok ;) the only way it could potentially be damaging is if you got up close and stared directly into the light for an extended period of time. Same as the sun :) safe to be under but dont stare directly at it or be out under it for to long :D

I agree. Lights tend to be downwards directed. Also there is the inverse square law. Double the distance and you get one quarter the radiation, light being a form of radiant energy. So at 10’, one would get 1% of the dose one would get at 1’. The part of the LED lighting that would cause the most damage would be UV. But UV diodes are just a fraction of the whole.

I also see that this is technically your first post to R2R and you haven't been properly welcomed ;)

Easy enough to design most tanks to minimize light spill. I doubt it's dangerous; though it is aesthetically annoying.
