I'm about to take down my 50 gallon FOWLR and turn it into more of a island reef type setup. Island on one end with mangroves and some other micro plants in there. On the other a small island or two with maybe some GSP or some other really simple/easy coral. Still gonna be mostly a FOWLR but with a little more flare to it, lol. [emoji106] I am gonna be using a 40b for the new setup but moving everything over from the other tank. My question is what size light should I be looking for? Right now I just have the light that came with the Aqueon tank on it because well... It's just a FOWLR. Now I need something a little better to help with the mangroves and plants... any suggestions?

You are going to need something with some power to it if you are going to use it to grow mangroves out of the water and corals in the water. Simply due to hanging height.

Bb's will be the cheapest. The biggest Radion the most expensive, then the maxspect ethereal the ai hydra 52 , reefbreeders photon.

Thanks salty, and I may abandon the corals. I do have a smaller reef that I'm going mixed reef with. I wasn't thinking about how strong the light needed to be to grow both, I'm glad you brought that up. I may need to adjust a bit.

Fwiw. A black box would do it. A freshwater Bb light would also grow them.
