So I am still planning my tank and currently looking at lights. From what I have researched it seems that the best form of lighting seems to be a T5 and LED hybrid. I want to eventually keep some SPS in the upper regions of the tank with some LPS and softies in the bottom. I was looking into going with a Aquatic Life 48" fixture and getting two Kessil 360WE Tuna Blue lights to supplement with. Am I going over the top? Is there any more cost effective ways of lighting a 48x18x21 in tank than this?

There are much cheaper alternatives, If I were you I would look into the Current Usa Orbit https://www.amazon.com/Current-USA-Marine-Aquarium-60-Inch/dp/B00GFTSV24 ... It's just my preference!

Best is subjective and can depend on a lot of things. T5/LED in an Aquatic Life is very popular right now. If you want easy stuff that just works, then best could be just a 4 or 6 bulb T5 fixture. If you want the ability to change stuff on your couch with an app or dial up some thunderstorms or moon cycles, then all LED could be best. If you just want the most performance, then Metal Halide might be best. To each their own... they all can work to different degrees depending on what you are keeping.

I am not a Kessil Fan, but others are. If I was going to do a T5 Hybrid, then I would see if a SB Reef Lights box would fit... or maybe some Hydras. I personally think that the T5s are more important than the panels, so I would recommend a 4 bulb Hybrid and then just buy some panels that you can afford.
