Alright guys I'm looking for ideas here for lighting and though I haven't even decided on corals and fish I'm trying to get an idea on building this setup. The tank has a diameter of 20in, and is about 19in deep with an open top (30 gallon tank). It will sit atop a used wine barrel that I'm going to place a large door into to accommodate my sump. So far the only think I can think of is hanging a system from the celling? Few questions I have,
In order for the lighting to work it must be shinning directly onto open water correct?
Has anyone tried installing marine grade LEDs that you see on yachts on the inside of a tank? I was thinking on the sides (though could be a pain with round sides, or on even on the bottom shinning up?

The wine barrel creates a lip on the edge that rises at about a 30 degree angel for about an inch. I was thinking LEDs strip lighting around this and the lighting would be projected directly onto the tank (but from my understanding the light must shine on water, won't work for the reef through acrylic?

Thank you for any ideas or suggestions!

Google kessil lights, these should work for you. I wouldnt worry to much about the round tank I think most lighting will fit your needs. I would shine the light straight down.

Sweet I think a single of the 350W would be perfect for my set up. Still curious though if one could mount lights inside of an aquarium without issue?
