I've been researching lights for our 180. It's an Aqueon with two cross braces. I really like the features and price point of the Photon V2 and considering a T5 hybrid setup with them. They actually mention two of their 32" units being perfect for a 6' tank. But with the braces, I'm wondering if 3 of the 24" would work better to eliminate shadowing. Price is the same either way. Like to stay under 2 grand . Or am I overthinking the cross braces ? Thanks.

with a hybrid fixture..... you can place main lights on left and right side

No, you're not overthinking it. Those are good questions.

The plastic braces can leave shadows, especially with LED fixtures. The array of LEDs on those V2 fixtures, compared to a 'puck style' like AI or Kessil, should lead to less shadowing. If you do add the T5s in, you'll have even less.

I'm with you though, on doing the 3 fixtures instead of the 2. You'll have slightly better end-to-end coverage. It might also be easier to mount those 3 in stead of 2, by using the braces.

I have a 135 gal 72" long woth 2 cross braces. Nereefpat is right, the cross braces can cast a shadow if not properly lit.

With 3 LEDs with t5, shadowing will never be a concern.

Thanks for the input. I was looking at the Aquatic Life 61" T5 hybrid since I've been told I don't really need the full 72" in a fixture. Obviously, three 24" Photons won't fit that. Anyone care to recommend LEDs that would work similar without breaking the bank ?

As long as you have the t5, you can put in pretty much any led you want. Red Sea LED are affordable and have kessil like shimmer.
