I currently have an AGA 210 72x24x30. I have 4 Tek retros (8 bulbs) in the canopy but I want to get rid of the canopy. I'm leaning tword the ATI sunpower. My question is since they are supposed to put out more par then Teks can I go with a 6 bulb instead of an 8 or just just go with the 8 bulb to he safe since its such a tall tank. Its a mixed reef.

Also, I currently have 2 mag7's for return pumps and I'm very underwhelmed with their flow and heat. I was thinking 2 900gph eihem compacts instead. I want to stay with submersable pumps since my sump is glass and I don't want to drill it. Any advise?

I would go with the 8 bulb fixture. I would not want to get the 6 and then want 8 later. As for a return not sure as I went with an external but maybe a larger mag like a mag 18 so you only have the heat from 1 pump.

I would go with the 8 bulb fixture also.... you would most likely be okay with the 6 bulb depending upon aquascape and coral placement but with the depth of the tank I think you are right - the 8 bulb would be safer and with a 60" fixture on a 72" tank you will still have some lower light areas on the ends of the tank if you need it. I run a 6 bulb 48" on a standard 90 gallon (48 x 18 x 24) with a dsb .... and not wishing for less light!

Have heard great things about the eheims .... but I've switched both my tanks over to the water blaster pumps and absolutely love them - noticeably less heat than the mag pumps and super super quiet and move a lot of water.
