Hey there, I'm new to R2R and just getting back in the game after an 8 year hiatus. Bit of background: started a 90g cube about 10 years ago bought everything under the sun and then some more. Basically over complicated everything and sites like these either didn't exist or I didn't look hard enough so my ups and downs led to more downs that ended up kicking me out of the hobby. I basically over complicated everything, bought all the stuff to automate and had just enough knowledge to be deadly...which didn't end well for the tank. So....I was on vacation at some fancy restaurant with a sick tank and of course had to look under the cabinet and bam...I was hooked again. Told my wife I'd give it a month. After reading this site and watching YouTube for 2 straight weeks till the point that she asked me if I was having an affair she gave in and said, "go ahead but please just don't screw this one up" lol. No pressure.. I had quite a few things left over from my old stuff that I didn't sell and decided to not do the sump stuff this time (I'm sure I'll regret) and went with an IM 40 aio. She figured if I had less room and a smaller tank I'd have less places to put stuff, sump n display. Ok, that's a long version. This brings me to lighting that won't be for another 3-4 months but need advice. One of the things I kept was a Kessil a350 that was the must have in 2012. Still in box. Lighting has come a long way and as you know this thing is full manual. She wants me to use it. Says, "if it grew corals in 2012 it can grow corals in 2021". She's right...buuuuuuut. She'll end up giving in if I choose. Questions: do I do some hybrid light (Reef Brite etc) and program that to kick on as my ramp up and just smart switch that kessil? Buy an updated kessil? Straton? V2? I'm not sure why I just don't want the AI or EcoTech stuff. So with that I'm open to anything. Oh...I want mixed reef ability. Attaching my setup. The kessil was on there only for a picture and the cabinet was for my old 90 so my 40 looks more tiny in the pic than it does in real life.
