I'm curious if anyone has tried 12 hour lighting cycles instead of 24-hour lighting cycles or has read about it? I'm thinking about trying it on my build primarily just so I can see my fish. This would be in a mixed lps softie tank. Thinking about starting to ramp my lights up at 5:30 for an hour and have them start winding down at 10:30 and off at 11:30, AM & PM. The refugium would do the opposite. I'm sure some folks done this before but I'm not even sure how to go about searching. Any thoughts, issues?

There is no such thing as a 24-hour light cycle unless you are including a moon cycle. I used to run my lights from 7AM-7PM. I wouldn't go over 14 hours a day between sunrise and sunset. Think about real word conditions, have you ever experienced a day where sunrise is at 530AM and sunset is at 1030PM?

I get what you are saying. So, I take it you have not tried or read anything like this. To be clear, I'm asking about 4-6 hours of light, 6 hours dark, repeat experiences/knowlegde
