I'm planning the build of a 310g (96L x 30W x 25H) that will be mixed, but primarily SPS. The tank has two braces, so I've got 3 sections of approx 30x30 to light. Looking at the data on the BRS website, they say the Radion XR39 G5 has a recommended spread of 24x24. Given the 30x30 area I need to cover, 2 lights per section for 6 total? Is that going to be overkill where they overlap?

The other option I was looking at was the Atlantik V4 (gen2). They say the recommended spread is 40x24 for that. Assuming I let it be a little less covered at the two outside edges and the middle would have overlap, it would seem I could do 1 light per section for 3 total with these.

Anyone have a setup similar to either scenario and could comment on how it worked out?

You could do 9 xr15’s (3 in each) and still be cheaper than 6 xr30’s. You have more flexibility to lay them out too. There may be some T5/LED hybrid combos that could work in each section too.

Good idea on the xr15. i'll have to think about that one. I'm trying to avoid T5 if I can though.

I’m doing a 300 build myself and using 7 XR15‘s across. I don’t have braces though so I know you have other factors to consider.

if thats a planet mega matrix tank there will be 3 braces so 4 sections. if its not a planet tank im sorry for making this statement lol im building a 310 from them now lol.

How about the Philips CoralCare Gen2 Lights coming out soon? They cover a large area.. here's a link to the specs CoralCare Gen2. I have a 300 gallon deep dimension so im running into the same problem. I have 8 fixtures running over my tank right now and I'll be switching to these, I should only need three.

It is a planet aq tank, but I was under the impression it had two braces. I'm going to put the order in today with my LFS and I asked them to verify.

I got some details about it. It is a planet aquarium 310 (96x30x25). It does have 4 braces, but 2 are on the outside edges and 2 in the center. So it is the 3 sections I had assumed.

I too am in the market for lighting my new aquarium 8ftt tank ... $$$$ curious on best chooses with out spending 5k lol

those Philips CoralCare Gen2 LED Lighting Fixture look nice how much do they go for

When I looked back at the site I realized what the difference is. If you want the traditional 310 it will be like u say. 3 total openings. I ordered the PENNINSULA mega matrix tank. Mine has 4 sections kinda curious why they do this? I would assume the dimensions are the same so why change the top support design? Does planet have a @? I would love to get some answers just out of curiosity

maybe it is something with how the holes are placed on the end on a peninsula tank. I wouldn't have expected a difference either.

I am doing a 300 as well..I will be doing Orpheks with supplemental T5 lighting. I currently have an Orphek V2 and love it.

I have a 265 that has “3 sections” as well. I just bought the 62 in. T5/led hybrid fixture. Got 4 noopsyche k7s that I’m gonna try. Should be wayyy better than my current 8 bulb t5 retrofit.

FWIW, I just upgraded from 4 Gen3 Pro to 3 Gen5 Blue on my 72x30x27 tank; I'm not sure if I'm going to add a 4th yet or not, but my thought is that it's easier to add another than to try and return/sell an extra. Food for thought.

Same here I have 96 in tank i just went with gen5 blue 4 of them screw it I can always add more in the future

Umm for the Radion G5s those things are great but expensive...
6? no prob 4-5.

Cheaper options would be using 6-8 long T8 or 5 tubes a combination of White, actinic blue and red/pink
Or u could have like 4 hydra 64HDs? or 7-8 32HDs?

I'm going to go with G5s. Once I get the tank i'm going to rig up 3 of them and do some par measurements and see if I need to add something else.
