Lighting for a anemone

Doubling size in two months isn't evidence of a good thing. Corals and anemones stretch out if they are underilluminated, trying to expose as much of themselves to the light as possible. This is far more likely.

I have to agree with Trex. Defiantly a H.crispa. Here is the Anemone when I purchased it.

in a nano tank. Moved to my 55 reef with feeding and stronger lights and here it is now.

@ Ohio reefer- kind of looked like mine when you 1st got it. So with brighter lights I can expect mine to grow longer & thinner tentacles and lose its purple tips?

With proper care and feeding it should grow, gain color and tentacle length.

So with rapid LEDS on my hood will I be able to provide enough lighting to sustain a nem a bubble tip or the one listed above or any?

Uh, no, the tentacles are short because it is H. malu. There are two species sold as 'sebae' anemones, and a generalization for a quick look is that malu have much shorter tentacles.

I am aware of that, have kept both H. malu and H. crispa, that one is an H. crispa that has been consuming itself for energy.

Good quality LEDs from rapid or Steve's LEDs will provide more than enough light for anemones. Make sure you get some that are adjustable, as the LEDs at full brightness can and will burn corals and fish. They are far brighter than what you have now so you will have to start them low and gradually brighten them over weeks to even a couple months. I started mine at 30% and have increased it 5% weekly, some have gone even up to 10% weekly. Just don't brighten it too fast.

Oh so the dimmable ones are the best way to go. What colors does everyone suggests. Green, UV, etc.

@jediMB - here's a pic today under actinic light only.... Still look like he's consuming himself?
