Lighting for anemones and corals

I also tested phosphates with the RODI salt water out of the cup that I mixed that hasn't been in my reef tank yet. The test showed 0. So that test is correct.

So here is the tests before the 40% water change phosphates 5.0.

Then I mixed salt water in a cup, that hasn't been in my reef tank yet, and tested it to make sure that was testing at zero and correct, and it was.

After the 40 % water change I tested the reef tank water again and it brought the phosphates down
to 2.0.

Is 2.0 still to high and can it make my anemone and corals if I get some later sick?

Ammonia is terrible for anything in living in the tank but the bacteria. Buy some Prime and dose what the label says. Also as others have said, the anemone doesn't need to eat every day. I feed mine once or twice a month. This is my first nem, and I got it a month into my cycle being completed, (way to early... I know), but now I'm at the 6 month mark and it's still as happy as it's always been. Get your salinity up, ammonia down, give the nem 10+/- hours of light per day, and let it be. They inflate and deflate, (BTAs), for various reasons- water intake, water purge, stress, poop etc etc. Just let it go

What about the .25 ammonia in new saltwater that has been tested hasn't been put in the tank? I have ammonia to start with in the mixed salt water. What do I do about a problem like that? Can my anemone get sick and die from this? Do I need to change salt mixes because of this?

I am going to take a water sample to the fish store tomorrow and let them test it to get a second test result.

Idk if I'd trust the API. But just in case get Prime and treat the tank as soon as you can to neutralize it if it is present. Then get it tested

What brand of test kits are to you using ?
API ?
What do you mean by it’s getting sick ? It’s common for anemones to deflate and inflate during the acclimation process. Don’t try to feed it or mess with it as it’s still trying to settle down

I will give it some more time. Right now it is fully deflated. :/ I hope tommorow it is fully open again.

What we are trying to tell you is there is no ammonia. What salt are you using? Also when raising the salt raise slowly. DO NOT go from .019 to .025-.026 in one water change. Add a little bit of salt every 2 days just to raise by .001 to .002 each time. We will get you through this and fix it. I still done prime with my weekly water changes. It helps build the Nitrifying bacteria (good bacteria). If you cant get prime get microbacter7. They both do the same thing.

3:00 AM anemone is not fully opened but it has opened back up a lot, with the lights off all night. Hopefully it continues to do good. Here is a short video.

If your clown is already hosting it then you should be fine. Give it a few days and then they will create a symbiotic relationship. Do not spot feed the anemone now that your clown fish is feeling all lovey dubby with it. The clown will actually bring it food and let nature take its course.

Today 12:26 PM not looking so good. :/

Hows the flow in that tank? It doesn't look like it's getting very much. Also, that clown looks way too big for that nem, it may be stressing it out. Idk about yours but my maroon clowns were very aggressive with the nem when was put in the tank. Did you get prime in and your water tested?

I am going to post a video of what it looked like when I first got it just for reference. The video takes a some time to load.

I think the flow is alright, for now I am using a hang on back filter, hang on back skimmer, and a powerhead. Before I was using a canister filter, hang on back protein skimmer, and a powerhead. I plan on getting a sump soon, but I might be getting a new tank before that happens.

I don't have the extra money for prime right now. I will go there soon and get it tested.

I don't really need to go there. I already tested fresh RODI water without salt for ammonia to see if my test zerod for accuracy and it did, then tested fresh rodi salt water that hasn't yet been in the tank that tested at 0.25, and then tested my reef tank water that has been in the reef tank that tested at 0.25. That means it is coming in with the salt mix. The question now is; are those amounts of ammonia going to make my livestock sick or not?

Going to the fish store probably isn't going to do anything for me other than ask them if they can exchange the salt, because maybe its a bad batch of salt, but I don't have my reciept so maybe they won't even do that.

Ignore the test kit. THERE IS NO AMMONIA! test freshwater with a saltwater test kit is not going to give you accurate results, so the test with fresh RODI is useless. API consistently shows 0.25 ammonia even when none is present.

As for the nem, it really does not look too bad. It seems to be inflated, mouth (though can't see all of it) does not look like it is gaping, it is attached, etc. What lighting do you have over the tank? I also agree that the flow seems quite low, and the nem is pretty white (AKA bleached). It is not void of all color, so it can make a recovery, but it needs time.

Anemones change their appearance regularly and will drive you crazy if you freak out every time it does. Watch for real signs of trouble and let it be otherwise. Some signs of decline would be, not attached, mouth gaping, innards hanging out of mouth, pancaking, and looks like snot or smells like death. If any of these signs appear, immediate action is required, short of these, just ensure it has adequate light and your tank params are stable, and let it acclimate.
